Who am I?
Alastair Dargie, Age 29, educated at Dornoch Academy and Golspie High School. Whilst at school I started to race for the Scottish and later the British junior cross country ski teams. Upon leaving school I went to live and train in Norway for a year and then went to college. During College I continued to race and train full time. After finishing college I spent a year full time training and racing. I had to stop due to a near complete lack of funding and sponsorship. Within weeks I started my GIS (Geographic Information Systems) consultancy business. As the business built up, time for skiing reduced, but I still managed to compete on the international roller ski circuit for 2 more seasons.
Since then I have been a director of the BBU (British Biathlon Union) for 3 years and recently went on to form Britain’s first civilian Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club with Mike Dixon. I am vice chair and assistant coach at Cairngorm Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club (CBNSC) and in addition to the standard club coaching I am the personal coach/mentor to Alastair, Alison and Caroline Duncan. To top all that off - when I have a spare minute (which is rare) I am also a retained (part time) fire fighter! The site will develop considerably over the next few months especially on the coaching side with articles being written expressing MY views on cross country skiing and the way to take this sport forward to the next level. |
